So I got a beautiful Kilt a few weeks ago as a birthday gift from bixkitty.
I Really liked it! it was a nice heavy weight duck cloth in a dark heather green. I got my first Kilt from Utilikilts about a year ago. What an ordeal that was, customer service was so bad, and then when I finally got the kilt it was missing options that I had ordered. Anyway due to the experience I had said I would never order from utilikilts again.
Even with the whole utilikilts fiasco, I came to really enjoy wearing the Kilt, and decided I wanted More (wanting more, so unlike me I know...lol). I had looked, halfheartedly, at some alternate sources for Kilt but never got around to ordering anything. Well this past August, bixkitty and myself went to NJ for The Floating World. While perusing the vendor area, we came across The Kilted Nation. They were carrying utilikilts, I know I know, I said i would not buy another Kilt from them, well the price was right and I really wanted a new Kilt. As luck would have it they did not have any of the models that I wanted in my size. During the course of the weekend though I saw many a Kilted person walking around, some wearing utilikilts, some with amerikilts, and one or two wearing Alt.Kilts. Well I tried an amerikilt, but did not like it, it was Very light weight and just overall blah. The Alt.Kilt though, looked great. When we got home from the weekend, bixkitty and myself started to look online at Kilts. We narrowed it down to rkilts and Alt.Kilt, finally settling on Alt.Kilt.
I let bixkitty know what I would like and she ordered it for me. all correspondence was done via email, but according to bix, Alt was very good at answering any questions. Which put them in the good books with me. Then the Kilt arrived and Alt.Kilt suddenly became the place I was going to get All my kilts from. It was awesome. It looked great, a very well put together product.
Anyway on to the Katastrophe...
I had wore it to a few different events now, and it was time to wash it. Normally I would have taken it to the cleaners. After talking with people at Floating Work who recommend, at least for the utilikilts, just throwing in the machine to wash, and having washed my own utilikilt in the machine with no ill effects. The Alt.Kilt website even says " The best way to wash your kilt is in the washing machine in cold water." So,
I put my Kilt in the wash. It was washed with the utilikilt on the delicate cycle, in cold water with Dark Zero.
My heart sank when I was called down to take a look at the Kilt after it came out of the wash...
( Here is what I saw )
